  • The Indian Chief livery has been designed by tattoo artist Mayonaize
  • Two more bikes with tattoo-inspired livery will be unveiled

Indian Motorcycle has unveiled the first of the brand's tattoo-inspired livery designs. The American motorcycle brand has collaborated with three well-known tattoo artists all creating a design that is digitally displayed on a Chief model before being applied to a real motorcycle. The first of a series of three in the Indian x No Regrets collaboration, is the creation of New Zealand born tattoo artist Mayonaize, who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. Mayo hand-painted his design onto large-scale templates before they were photographed and rendered to the Indian Chief following his exact specification.

Speaking of his design with Indian Motorcycle, Mayo said, "I think the most interesting part is the way that all the panels fit together on the bike. I love the machining of the bike as well, so I was really interested in hero-ing that. You don't want to just do something that's not related to the flow of the bike, there's lines to a bike like there's lines and flow to a body - the focal point of the bike would be the tank and the engine beneath, so you want to hero the parts of the body that are the most interesting, the motorcycle creates the composition for the piece rather than just trying to put a flat image on each panel. I wanted it to look like it was one piece over the whole bike."

The bike will be revealed at an exclusive event in London in the spring of 2022. Designs of two more bikes, by two other artists making up the project, Shige and Carlos Torres, will also be showcased at the same event. Forty more tattoo artists from around the world will also compete to have their designs made into reality after a public vote later. The event is part of the "Indian Motorcycle and No Regrets" tattoo art collaboration.
