Indian Cricketer Shubman Gill Shows Off His New Mahindra Thar For The First Time

Indian batsman Shubman Gill was gifted a new Mahindra Thar in April from Anand Mahindra as an acknowledgement of his stellar performance in the Test series in Australia earlier this year. The cricketer's family members received the SUV on his behalf as he could not be available to receive the gift. He was then busy with the IPL 2021 season for Kolkata Knight Riders. Finally, Gill returned to Punjab and has been now able to take his new Mahindra Thar out for a spin. The batsman took to Twitter sharing his image with the Thar.

Earlier, Gill also took to Twitter thanking Anand Mahindra on receiving the gift. His tweet read, "Sir I am grateful and a big thank you to you for this gesture. Playing for India has been an honour and I will strive to give my best every time I step out on the field." Other players who were also gifted Thar along with Gill were T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar. Right after the series Down Under, Mahindra had taken to social media to announce that he would gift a Thar each to "six young men (who) made their debuts in the recent historic series".

The Mahindra Thar also bagged an impressive 4-Star safety rating in GlobalNCAP.

The Mahindra Thar was launched in India last year and has been a runaway success for the Indian carmaker. It also bagged 4-star crash test ratings in Global NCAP and there is a new 5-Door Thar in the making as well, which is likely to be at par in terms of safety. The new Thar gets a 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDI petrol engine which makes 150 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 320 Nm between 1,500-3,000 rpm. The diesel engine is a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 which makes 130 bhp at 3,750 rpm and 300 Nm of peak torque between 1,600-2,800 rpm. Both engines have the option of a six-speed automatic gearbox as well and gets a robust four-wheel-drive (4WD) system.
