Maruti Suzuki India produced 113,937 units in August 2021, registering a year-on-year (Y-o-Y) de-growth of 7.9 per cent as compared to 123,769 units produced in the same month last year.

Maruti Suzuki India has announced production figures for the month of August 2021. The carmaker said its total production dropped by 7.9 per cent to 113,937 units in August against 123,769 units produced in the corresponding month last year. Compared to 170,719 units produced in July 2021, the Indo-Japanese carmaker registered a month-on-month (M-o-M) decline of over 33 per cent. In a regulatory filing, the country's leading automaker said that the production volume last month was affected due to an electronic components shortage.

Production of the B-segment cars stood at 67,972 units in August 2021, as against 89,556 units produced in the same month last year.

The total number of passenger vehicles manufactured last month were 111,368 units in comparison to 121,381 units in the same month last year, witnessing a drop of 8 per cent. Last month, the production of entry-level cars such as Alto and the S-Presso stood at 20,332 units against 22,208 units produced in August last year. The carmaker produced 24,899 units of entry-level cars in July 2021.

Production of the B-segment cars including the Celerio, WagonR, Swift, Ignis, Baleno, and the Dzire, decreased to 67,972 units, registering a drop of over 24 per cent against 89,556 units produced in August 2020. The carmaker manufactured 90,604 units of B-segment cars in July 2021. At the same time, production of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz increased to 3,001 units last month against 1,190 units in August 2020. The company produced 2,311 units of the mid-size sedan in July 2021.

Coming to the utility vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki recorded a production increase of 37.8 per cent at 29,965 units compared to 21,737 units manufactured in the same month last year. The carmaker produced 40,094 units of utility vehicles in July this year. Maruti sells models like Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6 under the utility segment.

Production of the Eeco van increased to 10,430 units as compared to 9,917 units manufactured in July 2021. In August 2020, Maruti Suzuki produced 8,898 units of the Eeco van. Moreover, production of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle stood at 2,569 units in August, which increased by 7.5 per cent when compared to 2,388 units produced in the same month last year.
