  • The air filter claims to inactivate almost 100 percent of allergens
  • It will be available as an aftermarket solution at all Honda dealerships
  • It can be fitted in all Honda vehicles sold in India

Honda has launched a new antivirus air filter for its cars in India which will now be outfitted in the Jazz, Amaze, WR-V, and City models. This antivirus air filter can be installed by all Honda Car dealerships across India. The antivirus system, according to the company, is effective in capturing harmful germs, allergens, and even viruses that cause significant health issues. It has developed the system in collaboration with Freudenberg and is being offered as a Honda genuine accessory as an alternative to the pollen filter.

Honda and Freudenberg leverage a multi-layer design that claims to effectively filter, capture and suppress harmful environmental gasses as well as inorganic and biological particles and aerosols. Honda claims that while traveling in motor vehicles, it provides great protection in mitigating potential risks.

"With increasing concerns around germs, viruses and cabin air quality, it is our conscious effort to provide an active solution and a defense mechanism to mitigate possible health hazards caused by compromised air quality. This Anti-allergen & Antivirus Cabin Air-filter is a fine example of Honda working diligently with its suppliers towards delivering a product that improves the health and safety of driver and co-occupants of the car. We expect the demand for such protective solutions to increase rapidly in future," said Rajesh Goel, Honda's Senior Vice President for sales and marketing in India.

Honda's new system will be offered as an after market solution

Honda has offered this accessory so that it can easily trap aerosols which further can almost fully inactivate the viral load of allergens. The Honda antivirus uses a microfibre biofunctional layer coated with the active substances of leaf extract which effectively inactivates allergens along with bacteria and prevents them from being released into the cabin environment. Other layers of the Honda antivirus cabin air filter also capture most viruses, ultra-fine aerosols, dust, and pollen while the layer which is made out of activated carbon is responsible for the absorption of harmful acidic gases, pollutants, and P52.5 and particulate matter.

Honda claims that its new system can capture viral aerosols that are as small as 5 microns and then the second step of the filtering system can render most viruses inactive.

Considering the COVID19 pandemic and the advent of the festival season when the air quality index drops below habitable conditions in cities in North India, this is a very relevant technology.
