Mahindra Working on a New Crossover on SsangYong's X100 Platform

Highlights
- The new crossover vehicle will be based on SsangYong's X100 platform
- Mahindra is working on a new 1.5-litre petrol engine for the crossover
- Mahindra to develop a new product which would be sold under Pininfarina
As of now, Mahindra hasn't revealed specific details about this upcoming crossover, but it did mention that the vehicle will come with a new 1.5-litre petrol engine. This is the same engine which the company has been developing for quite some time now and is expected to be offered in the current Mahindra SUVs like the TUV300 and NuvoSport. While we are hoping to get more information about the vehicle soon, it is now quite clear that there would be increased sharing of technology between the Mahindra and SsangYong in the coming years. Having said that, there have been many concepts based on the X100 platform and the upcoming crossover may take some bits from them as well.
Earlier this week, speaking at the London round of the FIA Formula E championship, Goenka said that Mahindra is working on two new platforms, one of which will come out in 14 or 15 months. The second new platform on the other hand will come a year after that. Mahindra has also pointed out that their focus will mainly remain on SUVs and the company is currently in talks with Pininfarina to develop a new product which would be sold under the former's brand name. The company hasn't revealed any other details about this project.
