  • The Ciaz will come with ISOFIX mounts as standard fitment across variants
  • These ISOFIX mounts are designed to secure a combined weight of 33 kg
  • Ciaz is now complaint to Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the popular sedan from the Indo-Japanese carmaker will now come with ISOFIX mounts as an additional safety feature for child occupants. The new safety feature will allow easier and safer attachment of child safety seats on the rear passenger seat of the Ciaz. Up until now, ISOFIX mounts were usually offered only in premium segment vehicles in India. Interestingly, the Maruti Suzuki will offer ISOFIX mounts as a standard fitment across all Ciaz variants. For now, it is the only Maruti car to get this as a standard feature, while other models are likely to get it in near future.

ISOFIX is a globally acknowledged child car seat attachment system. There are metal bar connectors built into the seats of the car which are used to anchor the child seat and tether straps that ensure it is properly secured. These ISOFIX mounts are designed to secure a combined weight of 33 kg. Once the child is strapped-in inside the seat, securely anchored child seats minimize the risk of injury in case of an accident.

While seat belts can also be used to hold the child car seat in place, it is not highly advisable as it is a much harder task and could be a lot riskier for the child in the event of a collision. Instead, opting for cars with ISOFIX mounts makes it easier to attach the child seat and as it is well-fixed to the rear bench, the journey becomes safer and more comfortable for the child.

According to the information shared with us, by taking this step, the company has now made the Ciaz compliant with BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) by implementing ISOFIX. The company said, "ISOFIX is an international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger vehicles. It would help in providing a more secure and easier way of attaching child seats in Ciaz."

Other safety features that are on offer with the Ciaz includes - Dual Airbags and ABS with EBD as an option right from the base variant, seat belt pre-tensioner & force limiters, seat belt reminder buzzer for driver, reverse parking sensor and reverse parking camera among others.
