Maruti Suzuki Recalls 33,098 Units of Alto 800 and Alto K10

Highlights
Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, today announced the recall of 19,780 units of Alto 800 and 13,318 units of the Alto K10 that were manufactured between 8th December 2014 and 18th February 2015. The company said that it will inspect and replace the 'right hand door latch assembly' of these vehicles. The company also informs that the problem was noticed on the basis of internal quality checks undertaken by MSI.
Car owners who are driving the affected models will be contacted by the Maruti Suzuki dealers, and the technicians will carry out the necessary replacement free of cost.
"From customer perspective, there is no concern if the right hand side door (front and rear) is completely latched. If however, the door is half-latched then the door may open if pressure is applied from inside. Although it is a rare condition, but in view of customer safety, the Company is undertaking replacement of the door latch assembly, proactively.," the company said in a statement.
People who bought the Alto 800 and Alto K10 on or after 8th December 2014 in India, can check the company's website www.marutisuzuki.com to know if their particular vehicle is among the affected ones. Customers need to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen to check this. Just so you know, the chassis number is given on the vehicle ID plate, and can also be seen on the vehicle invoice or registration documents.
