Highlights

- A part of the fleet will be stationed at the airport as well
- The fares will be similar to regular sedan taxi fares
Mahindra Electric and cab-hailing company Meru have entered into collaboration for launching a pilot EV taxi project in Hyderabad and if it does work, the two companies would like to replicate the same in other Indian cities as well. The pilot project will see Meru deploy a fleet of electric vehicles, the eVerito, to be particular in Hyderabad and offer cab services in the city. The collaboration was entered into on the occasion of Earth Day, which falls on 22 April, 2018. Cab users in Hyderabad can simply book a Mahindra eVerito through Meru's mobile app or book it on Meru's website. A portion of the eVerito fleet will also be stationed at the Hyderabad airport.
Speaking on the collaboration Mahesh Babu, CEO Mahindra Electric said, "As pioneers of electric mobility, we at Mahindra Electric are happy to lead electric fleet adoption in India and are glad to partner with Meru for pilot deployment of eVeritos in Hyderabad. This is definitely going to make it easier for the city to adopt EV technology and will also be in line with our constant endeavor to make EVs more accessible to a larger urban population. We believe that innovative and unique partnership models like this pilot, will lead the way towards sustainable transportation in urban cities. We are now looking forward to working with Meru to have this project rolled out to more cities."
The fares for the eVerito will be the same as the regular fares for sedans which are applicable as suggested by the Telangana government. We do hope that this pilot project becomes a success and is also adopted in other cities in India. It will be a small step to curb the rise of pollution in metro cities.
